Which E-hailing App Do Malaysians Use Frequently?
According to research conducted by AAI and AGR, a trusted mobile data and analytics platform. Grab, MyCar and EzCab are Malaysia’s most actively used mobile e-hailing in the past 2 years.
The numbers measured are based on the monthly active users at different periods from the end of 2017 till Q3 of 2019, and make for some interesting viewing.
Let’s take a look:
Based on their findings, Grab ranks at number 1 for combined iOS and Android monthly users since Q2 2018 after Uber leave the south-east Asia market. However, unlike other E-hailing apps in this list, Grab is considered as a super-app, integrating its ride-hailing, food, delivery, and other featured all under a single application.
Nevertheless, GrabPay and Grab Reward feature plays a big role in helping Grab become the 1st choice of user. This is evident as GrabPay was recently awarded as the best e-wallet app in the country at the Malaysian e-Payments Excellence Awards 2019.
MyCar is the combination of Platform Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) and QUp World Inc. (USA). Platform Sdn Bhd. work as Fleet Management and Marketing and rent the license app from QUp World Inc. Eventhough MyCar app is rent from other country and do not own any technology. However, the MyCar is among the fastest growing E-hailing apps in the country.

MyCar Quickly Rising Through the Ranks

EzCab, One of the Pioneers in the E-Hailing Arena
EzCab App is the only fully Malaysian homegrown E-hailing app among the top active list. It was launched in 2013, the same batch with Uber and MyTeksi. Recently rejuvenated their brand, partnership with all major e-wallet player to helping Malaysia become a cashless nation.
Unlike other e-hailing app, EzCab differentiating themselves from others which allows users to use credit cards or e-wallets (MayBank QRpay, Touch n' Go eWallet, Boost, Alipay, WeChatPay and etc) on its app. Therefore, EzCab remains as a prominent player in the e-hailing arena, ranking as the 3rd most actively used in our study.
Outlook on Malaysia’s E-hailing Sector
There are more than 40 E-Hailing Operator(EHO) in the market, the sector keep high competitive. The entry barrier to join in as EHO is still very low, government should reconsider the EHO application requirement and control the number of EHO as well as e-hailing driver. So that all stakeholders of e-hailing sector will be benefits, especially the e-hailing driver.
